Summer Bucket List- Lynchburg

I saw a blog about a "Lynchburg area" bucket list.  It was ok, but maybe too specific at times, yet too NOT Lynchburg at other times (Roanoke attractions are an hour away so lets add not waste gas for a PAID attraction onto my bucket list!

In NO particular Order, our Bucket List for Summer 2013's   93 Days of Summer Vacation- Places to go

It is highly unlikely we will complete our list, but we hope to hit at least 75%.  As we check it off, we will turn it red.

1.  Go to VBS (Vacation Bible School)- and that doesn't mean just once!: Always Free

2.  Go to Camp Hydaway Summer Camp: Most expensive thing on our list at $70-$80, but so worth it and so full of fun memories and growth spiritually as well as a lot of new experiences.

3.  Attend a Lynchburg Hillcats Baseball Game: Midweek games are just $4
Technically we did this just prior to school letting out, but we're counting it :-)

4.  Go to the Spray Ground at Riverside Park: FREE!

5.  Go to the Liberty Mountain Snowflex: Family Days are just $1/hr per person and then you can still do the bounce houses for free.  The next Family day is August 3rd

6.  Enjoy the local Library: Free

7.  Buy some fresh foods at the Community Market: Prices vary on what you purchase

8.  Visit  Percivil's Island Park: the new LOVE sign there and a splash pad along with bike/walking trails all for Free

9.  7/11 Free Slurpee Day: Free slurpee one per customer
We missed this because the kidlets behavior didn't deserve it.

10.  Chick Fil A free food day: Dress like a cow get free food

11.  Mr. Goodie's Christmas in July: Free ice cream or snow cone when dressed in your Christmas gear

12.  Enter the "I love Parks and Rec" photo contest: Free and fun during the month of July

13.  Go see the LU Monogram: Free

14.  Go across the pedestrian bridge over top of the city's busiest road: Ward's: Free

15.  Buy ice cream from the ice cream truck: Yes, Seriously, this was a big deal to my kids!  For the first time in our 9 summers at our house an ice cream truck comes down our street.  Ice cream is $1

16.  Go skating: Free on Thursdays at FunQuest

17.  Go Bowling: Free using kidsbowlfree.com at AMF

18.  Go to the movies: $1 on Mondays or $1.50 any other time at the Dollar Theater

20.  Go to the YMCA: OK, not free for everyone but Jayna won a 3 month membership for our family, so for us it is Free

21.  Go to Miller Park Pool: $2 for kids and $3 for adults

22.  The City Cemetery: Free and not just full of graves-- giant swing, frog pond, goats, rose gardens

23.  Celebrate America: FREE on Candler's Mountain at TRBC on the Sunday prior to the 4th of July

24.  The Legacy Museum: This is a museum on African American history: $5 adults and $2 for kids

25.  The Awareness Garden and trail: FREE

26.  Go to the Nature Zone: $1 for kids and $2 for adults

27.  Try Uncle Joe's Donuts:  It's mandatory we must try all new bakeries, and they just opened on Timberlake Rd!  Price unknown so far.
Disappointingly we have attempted to get donuts THREE times in the past two weeks, and all three times the donut shop had run out of donuts so had closed early.  They are only open 7-1 as is, but have been closed before noon each time.  I think it is unlikely we will get donuts at this rate.  Luckily Dunkin Donuts will be opening up in just two more weeks.... and someone is counting down the days!

28.   High Bridge State Park:  Not in Lynchburg, but it looks worth the 25 mile drive to cross this.  Appears to either be $2 or free, it wasn't specific on the website.

29.  Art Classes: At Micheal's Arts and Crafts store, $2 per child for 2 hours of crafting fun

30. Visit Jerry Falwell Museum: At DeMoss on the campus of LU and FREE

31. Snowcones: what is summer without snowcones? Our favorite snowcone place is by Kroger Ward's Rd. Prices start at just over $1

32.   Hawkins Mill Park Waterfall: FREE
