Summer 2014 Bucket List

Our Free-- Or Mostly Free, Local or close to it Bucket List.  We have about (I'm not positive of the first day of school) 71 days off school and a bucket list of 24 to hit

Bible Schools-- this is one of our favorite summer activities.  Last year we attended 3, and the same plan for this year too!  But we will swap out the huge Thomas Rd one (I don't like crowds, it's true) for the one associated with the kiddos school-- First one listed
  • Seventh Day Adventist Bible School-- 9 George Street in Lynchburg-- right by the Airport-- Sunday June  15-Thursday the 19th
  • Church of God Bible School--777 Leesville Rd in Lynchburg-- Monday July 28-Aug 1
  • Fort Hill United Methodist Church-- on Memorial Ave, just before it becomes Fort Ave-- July 7-11th
Crab Tree Falls--- To the very top, no excuses regardless how many spare kids come along

Amazement Square- Courtesy of Aunt Brandy giving us 5 free passes

Lynchburg City Parks-- We will be visiting all of the parks that have trails
  • Ivy Side Park -- We will attend June 7th's celebration from 10-2 to use the newly created trails.  They also have canoes and kayaks for rent for $6 or $8 an hour
  • Black Water Creek-  You bet we will be using the bike trail
  • Hollins Mill Park-- This one is complete with a waterfall and fishing area
  • Miller Park-- Pool will be used for sure as a reward a few times this summer--- kids $2, adults $3, under 3 years old free
  • Peaksview Park-- has nice trails, 2 playgrounds and ball fields, tennis courts and a nice creek
  • Percival's Island-- Wonderfully shaded part of Black water creek bike trail with some huge bridges over the James River
  • Riverside Park-- Oh this one is on our top 3 favorite list with it'
Mr. Goodies-- located on the upper part of Timberlake Rd; Christmas in July, On July 25th.  You dress Christmassy (red and green clothes even-- or more extreme is our typical preference) and you get a free small cone or shaved ice.  Ironically this is on Blake's angel anniversary, so it's a less dreary activity that for three years has become our angel day tradition.

Old City Cemetery-- located off of Taylor Street down town Lynchburg, is one of our favorites too, with a frog pond, large swing, even goats.  It's far more than just a cemetery and full of history too.

Liberty Snowflex--- It isn't the most exciting thing, but it is free with the coupons inside the yellow coupon books we bought at the kids school fundraiser, and the kids enjoy it (more so than the mom)

Liberty Mountain Trails-- this time we are bringing lots of bug spray so we can fully enjoy the trails above snowflex

Regal Movies--Summer dollar movies at the main theater at River Ridge Mall; they show at 10 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Click the link for the full schedule

Funquest Skating -- skate for free on Thursdays from 4-8:30pm

Nature Zone--  Like a mini wild life home for reptiles and small critters, and inexpensive fun, just $1 for kids and $2 for adults you can't go wrong!

Thunder on the Mountain-- July 3rd is Thomas Road's 4th of July celebration

Fishing-- Saturday August 2 the kids will take a fishing class through the Parks and Rec, $5 a kid and all supplies are included

Strawberry Picking-- We use Yoder's Farm in Rustburg, but there are several yummy farms to choose from

Hill Cats Baseball-- This one we did two weeks ago, our annual baseball game.  Check on-line for good ticket deals.

  1. Wow, Busy Beth, looks likes lots of super summer stuff in Lynchburg. Too bad your old WV buddy doesn't get too many chances to visit down your direction :)
