Adventurer Club Fish Award

It's Adventurer Club time again!!  We love Adventure Club, and I mean we- all the kids I bring and myself.  Anthony has been promoted (due to age) from Adventurer to Pathfinder.  That means you won't get many updates on his group, as I still stay in Adventurers.  Last year Will and Diamond came with me all year and then in January Tabi started coming with me too.  This year we still have them coming, plus Alexus and Mateo are now old enough to join, so they have.

The first award we worked on has been the Fish Award.  We listened to the story of Jonah and the Whale, decorated fish for the church bulletin board, got gold fish and "water" (blue koolaide) for snack.

But the biggest excitement of course was our special visitor from Petsmart!  She works in the fish department and taught us all about Beta fish.  We also got 3 beta fish-- each with their own set ups and the kids got to set up their tanks.  Then one cluber gets to take home a fish each time we have club.

Somehow Jayna got picked as one of the 3 to take a fish home the first week. I was impressed the fish was still alive at the end of our two weeks.  The fish was named Blue by the clubbers.  Jayna wasted no time and immediately renamed him Gabe.  Poor fish was already facing an identity crisis.  He add well on week 1.  By week 2 she was bored of him.  Not to mention she had a distraction called Uncle Zach was in town.

Week 2 at club we went over the 2nd of three fish bible stories; Fisher's of Men.  They watched a short movie on it.  One of our newest club members gave us their report on salt and fresh water fish.  Then we practiced for the Induction ceremony scheduled for the next evening.  Most importantly the fish were reassigned to 3 new kids.  Tabi got to take Freddie home!

On Friday we had our induction ceremony.  The older kids (gr 3 and 4) each had a short speaking park.  All the Adventurers were given a candle and added their name to the alter.  The Pathfinders (grades 5 and up) had a longer ceremony of candle lightings and definitions of what it means and requires to be a Pathfinder.

The final part of the fish award was to have our 3rd fish bible story, 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.  Mrs. Melanie had a skit prepared for the children.  They acted out their parts while she told the story.  WOW!  She engaged the kids.  They loved it.  It will be a bible story they remember, it captured their attention, it was hands on and it taught them that God will always provide!  Jayna gave her mini oral report on her fact on one saltwater and one freshwater fish.

Here is the video from their skit, it's a bit long but cute.
